Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Bay of Naples
There is a wealth of unrivalled archaeological and geological sites along the shores of the Bay of Naples. This visit is run by a member of staff with huge expertise in the area, and the tinerary includes a visit to the fantastic Roman city of Pompeii, buried by ash in the volcanic eruption of AD 79.
Other venues visited during the week include Herculaneum, Oplontis, Boscoreale, the Naples Museum, Vesuvius, Pozzuoli, the Solfatara, Cumae, Paestum, Averno, Misenum and Sorrento (cafes, ice creams and shopping).
Boys study Pompeii as part of their Latin course in year 7, culminating in a written project, but for the lucky pupils who choose to travel to the Bay of Naples, history is tangible. The trip is open to all age groups in the school, and specialisation in Classics is not a requirement! Absolutely everyone has much to gain from taking part.
