Visits with a language focus
Recent years have seen an expansion in opportunities in foreign languages at King Edward's School. Chinese has been introduced successfully as an extra-curricular language option, and the introduction of the International Baccalaureate will mean that all boys will continue to study a language in the upper school. At the same time the number and scope of school visits with a language focus has also increased.
To boys who might bury their head in shame at the thought of the mistakes they will make when trying to choose their meals in French, or hear instructions for an activity, can we please say don't worry at all? The staff working with the boys when abroad are very experienced with this and are very good at getting their point across. More importantly, boys who may be nervous of using the language on the first day will be much less so on day two. By the end of the trip we'd hope that every child will have had a fantastic experience with their friends, taking part in many activities and building confidence in speaking and listening to the language. There can be no better way to further their understanding.
