Ardèche
The spectacular limestone scenery of Ardèche region in the south of France provides a fantastic venue for this week's adventure which operates every two years and is offered to boys in years 7 and 8.
Activities include rock climbing and caving, together with an adrenaline-filled day on a high-ropes course. The highlight of the week is a 2½ day open-canoe descent of the 29 kilometre Ardèche river gorge, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and negotiating exciting rapids under the supervision of very highly qualified and experienced instructors.
The week finishes with visits to two of the great Roman sites of southern France: the theatre in Orange (the best preserved example in Europe) and the remarkable Pont du Gard, the bridge forming part of the 50km aqueduct providing water to the city of Nîmes.
